DA leader Mmusi Maimane says Eskom should be split into two entities, with one entity privatised.
JOHANNESBURG - The DA is calling on the government to take bold, immediate action to reform the country’s energy sector.
They say the power utility should be split into two entities, with one entity privatised.
"I think the IPP programme we have is insufficient. The President can't say we want a 100 percent state-owned entity.
"We must split Eskom into two entities, one for build, one for distribution... it must be part-privatised," said DA leader Mmusi Maimane.
He said the country needs an aggressive plan.
"The ANC is incapable of acting on the issue. We need a South African plan. Eskom will plunge the economy into a serious catastrophe," he said.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Eskom will be unbundled into three entities.
