JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit says crucial information gathered from its sting operation at diamond company Alexander Bay will help them finalise investigations.

The SIU says it received a tip-off from a whistleblower alleging serious maladministration in the affairs of state-owned diamond enterprise Alexkor.

This relates to the marketing, valuation, sale and beneficiation of diamonds.

"We'll be able to know this sale was done. Because all the documentation is there and we'll also know who are the people they were selling to," said the SIU's Kaizer Kganyago.

"So we can take this investigation to the next level. Because it's not only up to this company.

"We then have to understand what the relationships are with the people they were selling to."
