A 19-year-old Mondeor High School boy was stabbed in the chest while walking outside the school on Wednesday morning.

Mondeor High Principal Vangelia Nicolaou found the grade 11 boy, who was unresponsive.

"I am distraught because I think it's terrible for a mother to lose a child," she said.

She said his eyes were still open but he was not able to speak in his final moments.

Lesufi thanked Nicolaou for her swift action in finding a pulse and staying with the boy in his final moments.

Lesufi expressed his sorrow at the spate of deaths of school-age children, saying he is tired of submitting death certificates instead of graduations.

Social workers and a team from the Department of Education will be giving support at the school.
