Double Pfizer jab 70% effective against severe Omicron complications: report

JOHANNESBURG - CEO of Discovery Health, Ryan Noach, says the double Pfizer jab has a 70 percent effectiveness against severe complications in the current Omicron wave.

There has been a drop in terms of efficacy against COVID-19 infection.

Noach said: "In terms of the vaccine effectiveness of the double dose of the Pfizer-BIOTECH Regime, the vaccine effectiveness has reduced from 80 percent in Delta wave to 33 percent in Omicron wave against COVID-19 infections.

"Quite a material reduction but the vaccines were developed to prevent severe illness and death and what is very encouraging, is that the vaccine effectiveness of this double dose of Pfizer- biotech holds at 70 percent in the Omicron wave against severe complications of COVID-19 which we measure by hospital admissions. So 70 percent vaccine effectiveness and mitigation of hospital admissions."
