DRC locals lament Ebola emergency declaration

KINSHASA - The Democratic Republic of Congo Ebola outbreak being declared a global health emergency is being met with critisicm.

Some locals feel it will harm the economy and will result in neighbouring countries closing their borders.

The World Health Organisation, however, says the declaration was to raise more funds and it was also intended to help stop the virus from spreading.

The WHO is urging countries to keep borders open.

More than 1600 people have died of Ebola since the onset of the outbreak last August.
