Vusithemba Ndima, Acting Deputy Director-General (Cultural Heritage) in the Department of Arts and Culture, said: "In next 30 days we are expecting people to say whatever it is they would like to say.

"People who are against the name can write to the minister and the minister can review the decision depending on what the reasons are for the objections. It has been gazetted as Gqeberha, and other names have been recommended for change, but Gqeberha is one most popular."

Ndima said name changes for airports have also been gazetted for public comment.

The Acting-DG said those who want to challenge the name within 30 days are allowed to do so.
