JOHANNESBURG - Egypt confirms its first coronavirus case, making this the first in Africa.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the case on Friday and says the affected person is a foreigner.

The person has been placed in isolation in a hospital and all the necessary measures to contain the virus have been implemented.

The World Health Organisation and the ministry are collaborating closely in outbreak investigation and response actions.

No details regarding the nationality of the infected person have been released.

The virus has infected more than 67,000 people globally .
