Emergency funds will be released for flood victims: Ramaphosa

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says emergency funds will be released to assist the KwaZulu-Natal flood victims.

The deadly floods have claimed at least 51 lives.

“Money is going to be mobilised to assist our people. These are emergency situations that we budget for, so resources will be mobilised in the biggest way so that our people who are currently in need are assisted.”

Ramphosa, however, said the funds will take time.

Ramaphosa will also visit affected areas in the Eastern Cape.

“It was important to come and see what has happened we pass our condolences to the families of those who have died in this disaster. We are saddened by what has happened here. The loss of life is never easy, especially when so unexpected.”
