JOHANNESBURG - The lion that escaped from the Karoo National Park outside Beaufort West a month ago, has been found.
Head of Communications at SANParks Janine Raftopoulos confirmed that the lion had been captured and darted.
“It was just outside the town of Sutherland. We are waiting for the crate and then we'll the lion in the crate and put it back into the Karoo National Park tomorrow [Thursday],” she said.
Raftopoulos said the lion is safe and is in a holding cell.
She added that the vets will look at the lion for observation.
Earlier, the lion was tracked some 270 kilometres away in the Northern Cape.
But it was eluding trackers despite advanced infrared tracking equipment.
Its spoors were found 42km northeast of Sutherland in the Northern Cape.
