JOHANNESBURG - Eskom's wage talks with unions have collapsed.

The power utility says it can't offer a wage hike above 1.5 percent.

Unions are now headed to the Commission of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

"NUM wants to confirm that Eskom has declared a dispute, and we view that as a declaration of war and Eskom is refusing to bargain," says the union's energy sector coordinator, Khangelani Baloyi.

Eskom says the union's demands are unaffordable and unreasonable.
