File: Over the past few months, Eskom has been experiencing supply constraints.
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has called on the public to reduce their electricity consumption as the generation system is constrained.
The power utility said the return to service of five generation units have been delayed while a further two have either been shut down or tripped.
"Eskom teams are hard at work to return these units to service," Eskom said in a statement.
"The breakdowns have added to the approximately 5,500MW of capacity out on planned maintenance while unplanned maintenance has risen to almost 11,000MW."
Eskom said the constrained system may persist for the rest of the week.
The public is urged to use electricity sparingly through the evening peak demand period.
