DURBAN - eThekwini Municipality residents should hear their new mayor being announced on Tuesday afternoon after the ANC Top 6 met with KwaZulu Natal officials at Luthuli House.
ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule says they will also meet with the eThekwini metro caucus on Tuesday morning.
Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte has been tasked to communicate the Top Six's decision to the party’s caucus in council.
Duarte will also meet with Zandile Gumede followed by a public announcement about who will be taking over the reins of the politically embattled metro municipality.
“We are in KZN tomorrow and after consulting the caucus and all that engaging them, we will make an announcement,” Magashule said.
“It doesn’t mean there is a disagreement between national and the province. We are finding each other, on this matter. It’s a simple matter because deployees of the ANC are deployees of the ANC and the ANC can take any decision in terms of its members.”
Magashule says the Top Six is happy that Gumede and the provincial leadership have met and amicably resolved this impasse but he is seemingly siding with party’s provincial leadership on making decisions about their deployees.
Gumede and mayor-elect Mxolisi Kaunda will know in less than 24-hours what their political future holds.
