JOHANNESBURG - The eThekwini Municipality is splashing out more than R20-million on two giant statues of struggle icons Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo.

The tender has been awarded to a young sculptor whose work received praise in the past.  

The statues are set to be unveiled later this year.

Lungelo Gumede has produced many statues of leading political and non-political figures.

The City hopes to unveil the statues in July and September respectively.
