The M2 highway has been closed for a major revamp.
JOHANNESBURG - Commuters can expect a long drive on Friday morning as the M2 highway between Crown interchange and Maritzburg is closed.
On Thursday, thousands of cars, taxis, delivery vehicles and buses were stuck in traffic with delays of between 20 to 30 minutes.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department says motorists should expect heavy traffic and are advised to add at least an hour to their normal travelling time.
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba recently announced that a portion of the highway would be closed in order for structural defects on the freeway's Kaserne bridge to be repaired.
Drivers are being urged to use alternative routes.
