IPID: Eyewitnesses and ballistic analysis led to police arrest

Eyewitness reports from the scene indicate police gave no warning before opening fire. JOHANNESBURG - Accounts from eyewitnesses and ballistic analysis is what led to the arrest of the four police officers.

The four officers were arrested in connection with the killing of Mthokozisi Ntumba in Braamfontein during student protests last week.

IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola says they will be appearing in court on Wednesday and face charges of murder, attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.

"We were able to get detailed accounts of what transpired from eyewitnesses," says Cola.

"We were able to get voluminous evidence within the crime scene, and we had to employ various investigative aids," she said.

Cola says they also relied on the autopsy as well as ballistic analysis.
