JOHANNESBURG - Kanya Cekeshe has been in prison for 22 months.
His mother now wants the Fees Must Fall activist freed.
Cekeshe was sentenced to 8 years with 3 years suspended for his involvement in the protest action.
His new legal team wants him released on bail, pending the appeal of his conviction and sentence.
Cekeshe appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he previously pleaded guilty to public violence and malicious damage to property charges.
Outside students came in their numbers to support Cekeshe
Kanya’s mother, Takazi Cekeshe says all she wants is to have her son home.
“I’m really sad I wanted to take him home today the justice system is failing us,” said Takazi
Judgment is expected next week Monday.
