JOHANNESBURG - Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile has been sentenced to three years house arrest.

He was convicted on public violence charges, failure to comply with a police instruction, and possession of a dangerous weapon in August last year.

He has accepted his sentence but says the struggle for free education must continue.

Magistrate Siphiwe Hlophe praised the police for their professionalism in dealing with protestors, because they were being provoked but they did not retaliate.

He added that the court thinks Khanyile should be given the opportunity to take responsibility for his behaviour.
