JOHANNESBURG - The number of males passing matric is significantly lower than the number of females.
Just under 225 000 girls passed matric in comparison to 185 00 boys, leaving the Education Department concerned over the growing trend.
The Education Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said, "you will find that the boys who are on the street, the boys who are sleeping on the street, the homeless boys are of school-going age."
Boys are less likely to finish school due to varying circumstances boys will drop-out and not complete matric.
Educational psychologist, Ken Resnick, suggests that the Education Department does some introspection and look into methods that will improve the pass rate of boys.
