JOHANNESBURG - A memorial service for late Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala was held in his home town of Ladysmith.
It was the first of three memorial services.
Shabalala died at a Pretoria hospital on Tuesday after a long illness at the age of 78.
His deteriorating health forced him to retire from the group in 2014.
A second memorial service will be held in Durban on Wednesday, while a third will be held in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The special official funeral will be held on Saturday at the AG Magubane Stadium in Ladysmith.
