JOHANNESBURG - The fight to lift the tobacco ban has suffered another blow in court.

Fair-Trade Independent Tobacco Association's application to appeal the dismissal of its challenge to the cigarette sales ban has been dismissed by the Pretoria High Court.

National Coronavirus Command Council has been arguing that smokers posed a risk to the embattled healthcare system as the country fights COVID-19.

The association is not giving up yet and is looking to file a petition for a right of appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal.
