Foreign dignitaries expected to attend Mugabe's funeral

PRETORIA - Many foreign dignitaries will be attending former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's funeral.

The dignitaries include several former heads of state who worked closely with Mugabe.

The former Zimbabwean strongman died in a Singapore hospital at the age of 95 last week.

Mugabe’s body was due to arrive in Harare on Wednesday afternoon.

Mugabe’s mortal remains will then be taken to his home village Zvimba.

The body will then lie in state at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Thursday and Friday.

Zimbabwean Ambassador to South Africa David Hamadziripi says they are expecting a large number of distinguished foreign dignitaries for his funeral on Saturday.

Mugabe will then be laid to rest on Sunday.

“The issue of the site of the burial of his remains will then be announced when the body arrives in Zimbabwe,” Hamadziripi said.
