SOWETO - A total of 27 people have been arrested in connection with violence in Soweto against foreign nationals and vandalism of stores.

Community members have been protesting against foreign-owned shops that they say sell expired food and counterfeit goods.

Foreign nationals in Soweto are seeking refuge at a police station.

Their shops were raided by locals, who accuse them of selling fake and expired goods.

Shopkeepers deny these allegations and reporters on the scene have only found products that appear to be within their warranty period.

Three people have died as a result of the violence.
