CAPE TOWN - A power outage almost two weeks before the fire that ripped through Parliament is being blamed for impairing the monitoring of security cameras in the precinct.

The Saps says it had to monitor exterior security cameras from small screens because a video wall was not working after generators ran out of diesel.

However, Public Works says it is untrue that they were not refilled after the December power failure.

Meanwhile, the Saps has confirmed it has notified four officers of its intention to suspend them - three of whom were responsible for watching the cameras on the day of the fire.
