JOHANNESBURG - It's another setback for pupils in the North West ahead of the year-end examinations.

Four schools were damaged by fire on Thursday.

The provincial education department suspects arson.

In one school, the fire destroyed a structure used for assemblies, a staff room, 200 chairs and five desks.

In another, two classrooms were completely torched and another partially burnt.

Police say a flammable substance was used to start the fires.

No arrests have yet been made.

The education department says the attacks are savagely cruel.
