UPDATE: Second man arrested for Edenvale High robbery

Editor's note: Earlier it was reported that a fourth suspect was arrested. In fact, two suspects have been arrested and two were killed.

 

JOHANNESBURG – Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the Edenvale High School shooting.

On Thursday two suspects were killed during a shootout with police while another was wounded and is under police guard in hospital.

The gang of armed men held school office staff at gunpoint during a robbery.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said the suspect was apprehended in the Edenvale area and was found in possession of unlicensed firearms, which included a rifle and pistol.

“Two firearms were found when he was arrested,” said Makhubele.

“He (the suspect) is the one who is alleged to have gotten away in a white Polo (vehicle), so the Polo has also been recovered.”

Police are still searching for the remaining suspects.

Edenvale High School remains closed, however, any pupil wanting counselling can visit the school. 

All exams and tests have also been moved to next week.
