JOHANNESBURG - After some delays, the ANC’s Gauteng Elective Conference is finally underway.

Panyaza Lesufi -- who is vying for the position of chairperson -- says the conference will be a success and that it is vital to appoint a leader that will take the province forward.

Lesufi says ANC leaders need to always put the party first.

Lebogang Maile is also a contender for the position of chairperson.

Meanwhile, outgoing provincial chair, David Makhura, said the ANC in Gauteng will emerge united.

Makhura says he's confident the new leadership that's set to be elected this weekend will move the province forward.
