Gauteng Health MEC looking to increase COVID-19 support

File: Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku said the province is looking at increasing the province's capabilities to cope with COVID-19 patients.


JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku said the province is looking at recruiting more trained staff to assist in fighting COVID-19.

He says they're also increasing the number of beds so the system doesn't get overwhelmed.

Masuku is urging people to continue following precautionary measures.

In Gauteng, 9,897 have tested positive for the virus, with 3207 recoveries and 81 deaths.

A total of 65 736 people have tested positive since the start of the outbreak and nearly 37,000 have already recovered.
