Gautrain operations limited as wage talks continue

JOHANNESBURG - The Gautrain wage strike enters its third day and operations are expected to be limited.

Workers under United Transport & Allied Trade Union are demanding a 10 percent wage increase while the employer is offering only 8.6 percent.

Gautrain workers demonstrated in full voice outside the Midrand depot on Monday.

Burning tyres were also seen at the depot and is alleged to have been started by the striking workers.

There is still a contingency plan in place, with a train and bus service extended to include Pretoria.

A bus service will operate between Hatfield and Pretoria.
