Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says what Eskom needs to conduct the necessary maintenance on its fleet, and to avoid the power outages, is an additional four to six thousand megawatts of electricity. eNCA's Lindsay Dentlinger reports. #DStv403
JOHANNESBURG - The country’s energy crisis does not warrant the declaration of a state of disaster.
So says Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Answering questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Gordhan said the unabated power cuts can be better described as a power system emergency.
He says the power utility has planned for up to eight stages of blackouts, to avoid a total collapse of the national grid.
