JOHANNESBURG - Government is holding consultative meetings looking at the decriminalisation of sex work.

Selling and buying sex is currently illegal in the country.

Deputy Justice Minister, John Jeffery, will meet stakeholders including religious and traditional leaders.

The Commission for Gender Equality and the National Aids Council are in favour of decriminalising sex work.

Over the years, there has been an outcry over the failure to legalise prostitution.

Sex workers say they are subjected to violence and discrimination and are targeted by police.
