JOHANNESBURG - A 12-year-old girl and her grandfather have died after being shot outside a school in Katlehong.
It's understood the shooting took place at the Izibuko Primary School on Wednesday afternoon.
SAPS spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said the shooting happened as a man and woman were collecting their child, who was returning from a school trip.
The family was attacked by a group of men driving a white Toyota Quantum. The man died on the scene.
The 12-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet and died early on Thursday morning.
Police do not know what the motive behind the attack was and no arrests have yet been made.
Dlamini said the police are currently pursuing leads in the investigation into the attack.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi urged the police to effect an arrest within 72 hours.
"Those that are responsible for these kinds of deeds must know they can run, they can hide but we will find them and when we find them the law will be merciless," he said.
