JOHANNESBURG - Greenpeace is calling for Minister Pravin Gordhan to cancel the last two units of Kusile and shift investments into renewable energy before it's too late.
It's arguing that the cancellation of the power station is the only option after five days of rolling blackouts.
Senior Climate and Energy Campaign Manager at Greenpeace Africa, Melita Steele said, "Eskom is currently in a financial meltdown".
Steele stated the organisation believes coal reserves should be left in the ground.
The group also raised their concerns about the oil and gas reserves discovered with Total off the coast of the Western Cape and characterised the discovery as a threat rather than an opportunity for economic enrichment.
