Guptas could have been stopped: Mo Shaik

JOHANNESBURG - The Gupta family was already a threat to national security by 2010.

That's the claim of Mo Shaik, former head of the foreign desk at the State Security Agency.

Shaik has told the state capture inquiry the Waterkloof scandal might never have happened if an investigation he and his colleagues wanted had taken place three years earlier.

He accused former State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele of quashing a Gupta investigation in 2011.

"The minister did not want to listen to the fact that we needed to investigate the Guptas," Shaik testified.
