COVID-19 in SA: New infections are dropping: Phaahla

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa exited the third coronavirus wave on 27 September according to the latest from Health Minister Joe Phaahla.

He says the wave lasted over a hundred days with it being the worst the country has experienced.

On Friday, the health department briefed the country on the latest COVID-19 stats.

According to Phaahla in the last three weeks, new COVID-19 infections have been dropping.

He says the country is entering a stable territory. 

"The number of new infections have been consistently dropping in the last three weeks, 33% reduction in the last 7 days... 19.3% decrease in hospitalization in the last seven days," he said.

Phaahla also announced the COVID digital vaccine certificate system is operational.
