PRETORIA - The Motsepe Foundation handed over a consignment of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Department of Health on Tuesday.

The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize and Gauteng MEC of Health, Dr Bandile Masuku, received 200,000 masks and gloves from Dr Precious Motsepe and Patrice Motsepe.

Motsepe said, "the obligation to save lives and coming together of stakeholders under the leadership of the President and Minister of Health, we are honoured to make this contribution."

Mkhize said there are ships that will be coming to the country from Wednesday and the next few days with another load of PPEs. 

The minister assured unions that health workers' safety is of paramount importance.

He said, "we have not completely run out of equipment. There are different provisions for different areas.

"Health professionals must take all the precautions from being infected. Our staff are our primary soldiers in this fight," Mkhize said.
