Huawei SA in hot water over foreign workforce

JOHANNESBURG - Government is taking Huawei South Africa to court for allegedly violating the country's employment rules.

The Labour Department says the Chinese company was audited in 2020 and was found to have employed approximately 90-percent foreign nationals.

This is a violation of the Employment Equity Policy.

The department says Huawei SA was granted a permit that required them to employ 60-percent of South Africans and 40-percent foreign nationals.

Government is looking at whether Huawei had committed any other violations of national laws.
