Hundreds evacuated as heavy rains batter Port St Johns

Hundreds of people evacuated in the Eastern Cape after extensive flooding in the province.

PORT ST JOHNS - Hundreds of people have been evacuated from Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape.

Heavy rains continue to batter the area, with many parts flooded.

There have been no reported fatalities in Port St Johns.

Port St John's executive mayor Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo said the damage is extensive.

"You can see with the numbers that are in the town, 280 were housed and given food and 180 families involved.

"We need support, most people have lost everything," she explained.
