JOHANNESBURG - While Gauteng's infections continue to rise at an alarming rate, the province's COVID-19 Advisory Committee member Dr Mary Kawonga says we're likely to see a shift to hybrid lockdown restrictions of between Alert Level Three and Level Four.
She said imposing Alert Level Five in the province was "way too stringent" and will have a negative impact on the livelihoods and the economy.
Kawonga said, "it's also quite clear that Alert Level One didn't work."
"It wasn't sufficient. We are now in Level Three, eight days in we haven't seen any impacts yet... However, yesterday's 10,000 is very worrying," Kawonga said.
On Thursday, the Gauteng Coronavirus Command Council briefed the media on its COVID-19 response as the province continues to account for the majority of daily infections.
The Gauteng Provincial Command Council, led by Premier David Makhura, is giving an update on Covid-19 in the province. It will cover the comprehensive health response following the sharp increase in infections.
