IEC determined to have party funding bill by next elections

JOHANNESBURG - The IEC is determined to have the Political Party Funding Bill enforced by the next local government elections.

The act was signed into law in January, but regulations for its implementation still need to be determined.

The electoral body held the first of its two-day public hearings on Thursday on the matter.

Lobby groups say voters have the right to know before they cast their ballots but they are still concerned about anonymous donors.

Trade union federation Cosatu wants all donations to political parties, no matter how small, to be declared.
