My Vote Counts won a Constitutional Court application forcing political parties to disclose their funders to the public.
JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will begin public hearings into draft regulations for the Political Party Funding Act.
This is after the organisation, My Vote Counts, won a Constitutional Court application forcing political parties to disclose their funders to the public.
The public hearings will take place on Thursday and Friday.
The organisation says disclosing party funders is essential for transparency.
My Vote Counts stated some political parties have complained the Act would hamper their funding efforts.
"The new Act also provides for the public funding of parties," said My Vote Counts' director, Joel Bregman.
"We need a change of perception around funding and money and politics."
