The IFP and the ANC are currently in negotiations about the future of the City of Gold.
JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg is up for grabs with the resignation of mayor Herman Mashaba, and the IFP wants to decide its future.
The ANC has approached the IFP for the support of its five councillors.
But there are conditions that have to be met.
The AbaQulusi and Jozini municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal are at the centre of the talks.
The IFP wants to keep these two municipalities while giving the ANC their support in Johannesburg.
The ANC in Johannesburg says engagements are ongoing.
The political negotiations will only escalate in the coming days as all parties in the city try to influence who takes over from Mashaba.
