JOHANNESBURG - More than two tons of illegally imported chloroquine - a malaria drug- have been seized in Benoni. 

This follows the eNCA exclusive last week, which revealed the drug had slipped through customs without approval.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Illegally' imported chloroquine probed

The anti-malaria drug is being touted as a treatment for COVID-19, but there's no research to prove it.

The consignment was flown in last week from India without authorisation.

The medicines regulator has given implicated parties an opportunity to produce documentation.
