Ipid investigating after cop accused of raping suspect

CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it’s investigating a case of a Cape Town police officer who allegedly raped a suspect.

The 29-year-old man was accused of stealing at a local mall.

According to Ipid, the suspect was never booked in by police but instead, allegedly faced a brutal assault.

Spokesperson Grace Langa said: "It is alleged the police came and drove around with him up until the victim was left alone with the driver, who is a police constable.

"It is alleged the police constable drove towards the airport route, towards the bushes, where he instructed the victim to get out of the van and kneel down..."

The officer is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
