JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg is urging informal settlement residents to be vigilant when heating their homes.
Wet and cold conditions are expected this weekend in large parts of the country and many will use various heating devices to keep themselves warm.
Johannesburg EMS Robert Mulaudzi said: "We need to make sure that we look after all heating devices.
"We know some of our residents in informal settlements use imbawula and paraffin stoves and candles which make them vulnerable...other residents use beer bottles as candle holders.
"We say they look after them so that we prevent fire incidents which might occur over this weekend."
