JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department is indefinitely deploying 60 officers, day and night, to root out drug dealers and end gang violence in Westbury.

Residents took to the streets last week in protest against rampant criminal activities.

That was after a woman was killed while a child was injured in what is believed to be a gang-related shooting.

Westbury residents said they have had enough of the rising crime in the area.

Over 300 JMPD officers were deployed to Westbury late last week, following Heather Peterson’s murder.

The JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said officials will work tirelessly day and night in a bid to restore order in the community.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele will officially hand over members of the tactical response team to Westbury on Thursday morning.
