JOHANNESBURG - A Johannesburg Metro Police officer is in a critical condition in hospital.

The female officer was shot during a roadblock in Braamfontein on Wednesday night.

She was trying to stop a group of suspects driving a white BMW. 

The suspects were attempting to avoid the roadblock when police gave chase.

"Officers are really at risk at this time of the year because of being out on the roads daily and very late at night. just last night an officer was shot and is currently at the Milpark hospital because they tried to stop a white BMW which had failed to stop at the first Roadblock and was chased through Braamfontein and at the second roadblock there was an attempt to stop him and one of the officers got shot on the shoulder and she is currently in hospital. So the officers lives at risk constantly at this time of the year", said Wayne Minnaar, JMPD spokesperson.
