Joburg blaze: Building was a disaster waiting to happen, says Nehawu

JOHANNESBURG - Labour union Nehawu says the Johannesburg CBD building where a fire broke out on Wednesday, was a disaster waiting to happen.

Three firefighters have died and injured firefighters and members of the public transported to Milpark hospital for medical treatment.

Nehawu's Gauteng Provincial Secretary Tshepo Mokheranyane spoke about their actions regarding the building, which began in 2014.

Mokheranyane stated smaller fires had broken out at the building before and the union would be liaising with government representatives on Friday regarding the situation.

Labour unions have highlighted the fact that the building was not up to occupational health and safety standards.
