JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg warns dam levels are low and residents have been urged to use water sparingly and adhere to restrictions.

The Lesotho Highlands Water Project is also not pumping water for the next two months due to maintenance.

The city says the Vaal Dam is currently just over 53-percent full.

“The dams, especially the Vaal where we are getting our water supply from doesn’t look good. Fifty three percent is not a good number, since we haven’t had any rains since Spring started,” said Johannesburg Water's Isaac Dhludhlu.

Dhludhlu has encouraged residents to use water wisely in order to prevent the city from throttling water supply.
