Johannesburg not ready for Level 3: Makhubo

JOHANNESBURG - As the government prepares to ease the nationwide lockdown to Level 3, Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo has warned the city is not ready to ease restrictions.

The City of Johannesburg presented a COVID-19 response plan to Parliament's Co-operative Governance committee.

74 percent of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng have recovered, 24 percent of cases are active while 1.1 percent of cases have been fatal.

Gauteng has performed 33 percent of all the tests conducted in the country.

On Thursday, Gauteng premier David Makhura said while Johannesburg remains the epicentre of infections in Gauteng, townships are now a concern.
