JOHANNESBURG - Justice Mandisa Maya is the new Deputy Chief Justice.

President Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement on Monday.

He says she brings more than two decades of a distinguished career as a judicial officer.

Maya is the first woman to hold the positions of Deputy President and President of the Supreme Court of Appeal.

She starts her new role on 1 September.
